Rodarte: Church Lady meets De Lempicka

I got two very clear mental images from the Rodarte show.

The first undeniably a staunch Church Lady from any number of yester years.

Not the sexiest or most flattering dresses, but I appreciate the angle.

The second image was also extremely clear in my mind. Tamara De Lempicka. One of my favorite artists of all time.
She, in her work and in her life, boldly represented something about face to the staunch church lady. She represents empowerment, glamor, and ultimately freedom. I have no idea if the girls from Rodarte had her in mind on this collection, but to me it seems clear as day.

Here's a piece of Tamaras' entitled "Saint Moritz".

I own this print and a matching one of her most famous painting "autoportrait". LOVE HER.

Anyhow, here are some of the Rodarte pieces that conjured up a Lempicka woman for me:

I love everything about these clothes. The Lempicka reference for me, I feel the need to clarify, has far more to do with the clothes versus the obvious styling similarities. They are the total epitome of power without sacrifice.

The shoes are amazing, too.
