Candy Coated!

PASTELS!

Everyone looks like they're covered in confectioner's sugar and edible glitter!

Like those "marshmallow" easter candies. Every year I THINK I remember them being delicious.

Then I eat one and wonder WHY I thought that....

Versus

YSL

ZSpoke Zac Posen

Givenchy

Versace

Chanel

Louis Vuitton
What's most impressive to me about this trend is that the most luxurious and expensive houses are doing it. Generally these guys take themselves far too seriously, so the baby colors are actually very refreshing. Silly. Whimsical.
Its a little bit miraculous.

I must mention both the Louis Vuitton and Chanel shows in particular. Because they were the same show.

The LV set was literally a carousel. The clothing was really pleasant, showcasing mostly eyelet lace on an exaggerated scale.

Note the iridescent quality.

At Chanel, it was another all white set, except instead of a carousel, it was "undersea". Ol' Karl totally one upped Marc though, he had Florence Welch perform as a clams pearl.
It's all so Magical!!!

nice clam guard.

The clothes at this show were also in an eerily similar color palette to LV, iridecence included. I have to say, other things aside, that this was a much more wearable collection from chanel. I want some of the seperates. gasp!

SO! We have mermaids, babydoll dresses, and pastels. Castles, crystals, and unicorns too!!!!

HRM.

I have to admit, Im enjoying it. If for no other reason than the entertainment value. I wonder where the light hearted design sentiment came from? Im finding that the overwhelming sameness of color is totally distracting from the construction and thought behind the garments.
The whole thing will start to grate on me as soon as I find my eyes assaulted with mint green and pink and sequins on more than one person in the grocery store.

YES...for now.
