Nicolas Ghesquière has done a great job of reviving and maintaining interest at Balenciaga in the past several years. I'm fairly ceratin that this house makes most of its money off of handbags. And in this case, thats fine as it allows for Nicolas to continue creating garments that aren't necessarily consumer friendly.
What they are is a showcase of a house that still examines and plays around with proportion, shape and fit.
What is amazing to me is that each time I see a new Balenciaga show, Im pushed to the same place in my head, which lies smack dab in the middle between "ew" and "ah". Difficult to do.
I love the slick lines of these fabrics. I like to color palate. I like the cut of the pant. I like the proportions, however odd. I even like the exaggerated visor.
