Where has Karl Lagerfeld decided to take us in his latest Chanel Couture Installment?
Post Apocalyptic, I'm guessing.
Chanel as a brand has been so undeniably the same for essentially, well, most of it's existence. It seems that in order to cope with the restraints of the inalienable pillars of the house(tweed, quilting, square, demure), Lagerfeld has decided to see if positioning the same old stuff in different imaginary contexts can help make it seem new again. I'd be bored if i were you too, Karl.
I'm not even sure how to comment on these looks individually. Overall, the collection was...old. I cant imagine anyone under the age of 70 wearing any of this. And even that 70 year old lady should be careful, because these clothes are primarily unflattering.
On the up side, I actually enjoy the half-arm-cover-partial-glove-but-not-really accessory.
I also like the last look above. Is it interesting? No. But it's okay. If only those ombre sharkskin boots and gloves didn't make the model look like she was suffering from a rare skin disease.
Let's face it, Chanel is probably the most recognizable brand name there is. Karl Lagerfeld is an unbelievably rich and self absorbed man. Most people would enjoy owning a signature black quilted handbag with the gold chain handle-
But I think that's only because everyone knows that it cost $2,500, not necessarily because they like it.
I don't like it.
40 years. That's only how long Coco Chanel has been dead. These silhouettes were designed and established far before that. I suppose Karl will continue to make money indefinitely into the future, redoing the same old thing over and over and over again. Mostly because the consumer will always covet an even outdated, meaningless symbol of wealth.
NO!
